Celebrated by the likes of Hans Christian Andersen, Malaga (pop. 550,000) is the largest Andalusian city on the coast and the birthplace of Pablo Picasso. While Malaga's beaches are better know for bars than sand, the city has much to offer. You'll find locals mixed with foreign exchange students strolling and meeting in sidewalk cafes for beer and tapas, exuberant nightlife, and all the requisite historical monuments – fortress, cathedral, and bullring. The city's charming casco antiguo is the cultural, historical, and culinary heart of the city and should not be missed. Because it is critical transportation hub, many see Malaga en route to other coastal stops, but it's well worth a day or two in its own right. Neighboring Torremolinos attracts tourists with its mediocre beaches and questionable nightlife, but Malaga and nearby Fuengirola and Nerja more worthwhile.
Excepcional, well – situated buildings. The history, traditions and essence of Andalusia, all packed inside four walls. From cottage complexes and caves for the more nostalgic to castles, mansions and estates where we can spend a few days enjoying the inheritance left behind by the southern aristocracy. And all whit the natural charm of rural life. Relaxation and contact whit nature are the watchwords of a branch of tourism that has proved increasingly prolific in recent years. Trips on horseback, bicycle rides and hiking are especially recommended to take full advantage of the setting in which these temporary home – from – homes are located. For those who wish to swap riding equipment for a set of golf clubs, a more classical brand of accommodation can be found throughout the province, both on the coast and further inland. Hotels and paradors that boast elegance, comfort and a whole range of ostentatious features. Hydromassage, saunas, jacuzzis, discotheques, restaurants, shopping facilities…virtual cities designed to allow the guest to enjoy every luxury imaginable without leaving the Hotel Larios, one of the first in the province, to one of Europe’s most luxurious, the Villa Padierna. Here, reminiscences of a classical Tuscan villa are provided in the shape of the Greek and Roman scuiptures from private collections to be found on display in every corner. Where staying the night is concerned, there is accommodation for all tastes and pockets. And for all types of holiday, of course.
Malaga
Malaga, located in the southern of Spain, at the Mediterranean sea coast, known as Costa del Sol (the Sunny Coast). It is one of the eight regional capitals of Andalusia and the biggest coastal city in the south with approximately 600,000 inhabitants. The town is located close to Sevilla and Granada and the strategically good position in the Mediterranean Sea.
The most important industrial sectors in Malaga are the agricultural and the tourism industry. The climate, with more than 300 days of sun and a year around average temperature of 23ºC (73ºF), makes Malaga a perfect location to grow olives and fruits like lemons and oranges. The perfect weather in Malaga together with the many beautiful beaches in the area make the province one of the most popular places for tourists to visit in Spain. Apart from the above sectors Malaga town has the second largest industrial port in Spain and it also has an important production of textile and alimentary products.
The town of Malaga is a very fascinating town with a rich and unique history , which gives visitors a great variety of interesting things to do and see, museums, cathedral, Gibralfaro, theathers.....
Apart from all the cultural attractions, Malaga is a perfect location to enjoy life. The relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere and the perfect climate have during nearly half a decade attracted many foreigners (both tourists and foreigners settling down in Spain).
The people in Malaga (Malagueños), are known for going out a lot at night for a chat, a drink or to eat out. The town therefore has a great variation of restaurants, bars and bodegas, which normally are busy throughout the week. The Malagueños are also known for loving everything about their town and they are particularly proud of their two world famous citizens, and the painter Pablo Picasso.
The opening address of the fair, the "pregon de la feria", which is read from the balcony of the Town Hall, in the middle of Malaga Park, signals the beginning of the festive days on the third Friday in August. A huge spectacle of fireworks, light and sound is held a little later, on the stroke of midnight. The inaguration in the El Real exhibition center takes place on the following day. Thousands of people actively participate each year in the festive atmosphere of the malaga Fair, during which the incorporation of the ciry in the crown of Castile by the Catholic Kings is commemorated.
